I often say that learning to weave is one of the best things to happen to me - and I hope it is the same for you! In this four hour workshop, we will cover the basics of circular weaving, and we will work on creating a small woven wall hanging together from start to finish.
The workshop is designed for beginners who have never woven before, or who are just learning. We will cover a short overview of tools, materials, and composition, and then delve into techniques together. The techniques that I will cover include:
-How to warp your circular loom
-Tabby/Plain weave
-Soumak
-Bubbling
-Rya knots
-Looped rya knots
We will also cover finishing techniques and how to hang and care for your piece.
My teaching style is to help you learn the very basics, so that you can go on and create your own woven works afterwards. You can do so many things with these basic techniques - the possibilities are endless!
There are TWO sign up options for this course:
1- Materials included. Sign up and I will send you a kit with everything you need to complete the class (12" metal hoop, warp thread, fiber, yarn needle.) You just need scissors and a fork from home. The fiber sent will be an assortment of colours (rainbow) unless a specific request is made.
2- Bring your own materials. In an effort to make my workshops more affordable I am offering a lower price point for my online workshops. This option will give you access to the live class, as well as the recording afterwards. No materials will be provided and you will need to source your own.
Materials list:
- 12" metal hoop or (embroidery hoops work fine too)
- Warp thread
- Approximately 350g of fiber (I use a mix of wool roving and chunky wool yarns/pencil roving in my classes so comparable materials are best.)
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
Can't wait to meet you and weave together! Jen x
